Never before has it been so easy for the average man in the street to own a so called prestige car. It used to be the case that the marques – those cars designated as highly desirable - were above the range of the normal motorist’s pocket.

These cars typically have a lot of luxury extras and so called ‘boys toys’ fitted as standard but as we have moved forward with technology these extras have become the norm on so many regular production vehicles. Features such as ABS brakes, Turbo charged engines, multi disc CD players and satellite navigation are often now fitted as standard on even the most basic, low priced vehicles. This has partly taken the edge off the special nature of these prestige cars. So, the name and the snob value are really what remain, as well as a more solid feel and sometimes smoother and quieter ride.

In these troubled times prestige car sales have come under pressure, but marques like BMW are holding up well in the market and the top end will always thrive. However, in this Green age the big gas guzzlers, including a lot of the prestige cars, have found the bottom dropping out of their used car market. This is where the average man with some cash in his pocket can snatch some amazing bargains if he knows where to look and especially if he knows dealers who will move vehicles on for a really quick but small profit.

Even the big dealers often only make money on their finance deals and will discount prices just to move their stock. So, the prestige cars to watch are the used vehicles up to two years old that may have been repossessed by finance companies, or those gas guzzlers. But you had better be ready to pay the fuel bills.
